More about Hawaiian pokes bowls

The poke bowl has Hawaiian origins – the word ‘poke’ or ‘poké’ means ‘to cut into pieces’ in Hawaiian – and is traditionally prepared with raw fish and local ingredients such as onion, seaweed and soy sauce. It was originally eaten by Hawaiian fishermen as a quick, nutritious meal. Over time, poke became popular in other parts of the world, particularly in the western United States and Japan, and many restaurants and fast food chains began offering modern versions of the dish. The poke bowl has become a popular dish in fusion and health food restaurants.
